COLBY – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys basketball team had a chance to open up a 2 1/2 game lead in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division with a win over Colby on Friday night, but the Hornets protected their home court and regained the top spot in the standings.
Colby defeated the Dons 63-45, ending Columbus Catholic’s eight-game winning streak.
The Hornets, ranked 14th in this week’s Wissports.net Division 4 State Coaches Poll, improve to 9-1 overall and 8-1 in the conference. Columbus, ranked 13th in Division 5, falls to 10-4 and 9-2 in the Cloverbelt East.
Columbus hosts Neillsville on Thursday.
