WESTON – The Marshfield volleyball team opened its 2024 season with a 3-1 record at the D.C. Everest Invitational on Tuesday night.

Marshfield defeated Chippewa Falls 25-18, 25-16; Superior 25-14, 25-13; and Eau Claire North 25-17, 17-25, 15-11; while suffering a 25-15, 25-22 loss to Hudson.

Lauren Homolka had 30 kills and eight block kills, Della Smith added 29 kills, Kailyn Kurth had 75 assists, four blocks and six service aces, and Zaida Kolbeck had 33 digs for Marshfield.

“Overall, I was very pleased with the team in coming out with three wins,” Marshfield coach Josh Knecht said. “Hudson is a very strong team this year, winning all four of their matches. Lauren Homolka had a very impressive night terminating the ball for us at a very high percentage. The connection she has with Kailyn Kurth, our setter, was on full display at times.

“Della Smith also had some strong moments hitting the ball for us as well. I thought our team steadily improved throughout the night, shaking off some early timidness and hesitant play. I really like the make-up of our team, and its chemistry should be something that allows us to be very competitive as we continue through the season.”

Marshfield will compete at the Sun Prairie East Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
