Columbus Catholic volleyball opens season with third-place finish at Medford Invitational

MEDFORD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic volleyball team opened its season with a third-place finish at the Medford Invitational on Tuesday.

Columbus defeated Gilman 25-21, 28-26, before dropping two straight to Medford 25-22, 25-15, and Stanley-Boyd 25-18, 25-23. The Dons rebounded with victories over Athens 25-20, 22-25, 15-13, and Mellon 25-17, 25-7.

Shelby Spata had 32 kills and 42 digs, Aubrey Waldhauser added 29 kills, Alayna Egle dished out 88 assists, and Della Trader had 55 digs for the Dons.

Abby Kibbel chipped in 16 kills and Izzy Holz had 24 digs as well for the Dons.

Columbus Catholic will compete at the Menomonie Sprawl at the University of Wisconsin-Stout on Friday and Saturday.
