OGEMA – The Stratford and Auburndale cross country teams opened their 2024 seasons at the Timm’s Hill Invitational, hosted by Rib Lake/Prentice, on Thursday.
Both the Stratford boys and girls teams placed third in the team standings, with the Auburndale girls taking fourth. The Auburndale boys only had three runners competing.
Gavin Esterholm of Phillips won the boys race in 17:17.8, about 23 seconds ahead of Stratford senior Cree DeFoe, who was second in 17:40.5. Derek Wiese added an 11th-place finish for Stratford in 19:37.7.
Phillips earned the individual sweep as Leah Harper won the girls race for the Loggers in 21:12.5, with Stratford’s Kayla Casperson taking second in 21:37.3.
Auburndale’s Rose Hasenohrl was seventh in 23:02.9 and Stratford’s Breleigh Skaya placed 11th in 24:02.8.
Stratford will compete at the Mosinee Invitational at Nine Mile Park in Rib Mountain on Tuesday. Auburndale’s next meet is also at Nine Mile Park next Thursday for the Marathon Invite.
