Marshfield volleyball opens Sun Prairie East Tournament with four wins

SUN PRAIRIE – The Marshfield volleyball team swept all four of its matches at the opening day of the Cardinal Kickoff on Friday at Sun Prairie East High School.

The Tigers defeated Madison West 25-12, 25-10; Waupun 25-21, 25-16; Beaver Dam 25-19, 25-16; and De Pere 25-23, 25-20, in pool play.

Della Smith had 26 kills, and Lauren Homolka had 25 kills and seven blocks to lead the Marshfield offense.

Tigers setter Kailyn Kurth had 59 assists, 16 digs and seven service aces, surpassing the 1,000-assist mark for her career in the process. Zaida Kolbeck led the Marshfield defense with 29 digs and Michelle Potts added 18 digs.

Marshfield will face Watertown in a quarterfinal match at 9 a.m. Saturday as the tournament continues.
