AUBURNDALE – Auburndale’s high-powered offense was on display again on Friday night as the Eagles racked up 500 total yards and cruised to a 45-14 win over Marathon in a nonconference football game at Auburndale High School.
The Eagles were on point both on the ground and through the air, as Colton Weiler rushed for 158 yards and two touchdowns, and quarterback Blake Raab threw a pair of touchdowns and for 170 yards as they improve to 2-0 this season.
Weiler put Auburndale on the scoreboard with a 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. After a 22-yard field goal by Blake Raab made it 10-0, the teams traded a pair of touchdowns each in second quarter.
Raab hit Peyton Weinfurter for a 50-yard touchdown and Nathan Richardson for 19 yards and another score, and Auburndale led 24-14 at halftime.
The Eagles defense buckled down after that, holding Marathon (1-1) scoreless in the second half.
Raab (4 yards), Weiler (1 yard) and Ray Teska (10 yards) added rushing touchdowns for the Eagles as they piled it on.
Nathan Van Wyhe added 89 yards rushing and Raab 40 more for Auburndale.
Auburndale will open its Central Wisconsin Conference Small Division season at home against Edgar (1-1) next Friday, Sept. 6, at 7 p.m. Marathon will play at Loyal/Greenwood in its CWC Large opener.
