Columbus Catholic soccer blanks Central Wisconsin Christian in season opener

WAUPUN – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys soccer team opened its 2024 season with a 4-0 win over Central Wisconsin Christian at the Central Wisconsin Christian Kickoff on Friday.

The Dons were outshot 15-12, but Carter Sommer made nine saves in goal to earn the shutout win.

Mason Edwards scored 8:22 into the game and the Dons’ 1-0 lead held through halftime.

Columbus Catholic got its offense rolling in the second half, with Ben Weiland, Xan Rodriguez and Edwards scoring in a 10½-minute span to break the game open.

The Dons will take on River Valley on Saturday morning and play another game as the tournament concludes.
