Columbus Catholic volleyball finishes 3-4 at Menomonie Sprawl

MENOMONIE – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic volleyball team rebounded from four losses on Friday to win all three of its matches Saturday at the 40-team Menomonie Sprawl, held at the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

The Dons lost to Medford 25-21, 25-23; Eau Claire North 25-12, 25-19; St. Croix Falls 25-13, 25-18; and Grantsburg 25-19, 25-14; before ripping off three wins on Saturday against Camreron 25-13, 27-25; Luck 25-17, 25-18; and Chetek-Weyerhauser 25-16, 25-11.

“The first day we went 0-4, but learned so much on how to improve our game,” Columbus coach Kat Egle said. “The second day we went 3-0 and played so well as a team. The competition was tough and made us stronger.”

Shelby Spata had a team-high 67 kills and chipped in 33 digs, Alayna Egle had 108 assists and 23 digs, Gracie Wilczek had 24 kills and 44 digs, and Delia Trader led the defense with 59 digs for Columbus Catholic.

Aubrey Waldhauser also had 36 kills and nine service aces for the Dons in their seven matches.

Columbus Catholic will play a nonconference match at Stratford on Tuesday.
