Columbus Catholic soccer uses two second-half goals to pull past Pacelli in CWC opener

MARSHFIELD – Marshfield Columbus Catholic scored twice in the final 20 minutes to push past Stevens Point Pacelli 3-1 in its Central Wisconsin Conference boys soccer opener Tuesday at Griese Park.

Cade Jansen scored just 1:06 into the game to give the Dons a quick 1-0 lead.

Another goal from the Dons were negated due to an offsides penalty and Pacelli (0-2) took advantage of the momentum, tying the game on a goal from Sam Grabic with 1:36 to go before halftime.

Just one minute following an injury to Pacelli’s goalkeeper, Mason Edwards scored at the 60-minute mark to give the Dons (3-1) the lead.

Elijah Drury added another goal with 1:13 to go in the contest to pad Columbus’ lead.

Xan Rodriguez assisted on Columbus Catholic’s first two goals.

Carter Sommer had four saves in goal for the Dons.

Columbus Catholic will play another conference game at Tri-County in Plainfield on Thursday at 5 p.m.
