MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield volleyball team played its first home match of the season and rolled to a 3-0 sweep of Mosinee in a nonconference match Thursday at Marshfield High School.

The Tigers won 25-10, 25-20, 25-22.

Lauren Homolka had seven kills and six blocks, and Alyssa Foemmel, Della Smith and Sophia Olson each added six kills in the win for Marshfield.

Setter Kailyn Kurth had 24 assists and Zaida Kolbeck topped the Tigers’ defense with 12 digs.

“I thought we came out very focused tonight and started the match playing at a high level,” first-year Marshfield head coach Josh Knecht said. “We had very few mistakes and were passing the ball well to get it into our offense. Our concentration and focus dipped a little bit in the second set with too many missed serves and Mosinee really had some nice defensive plays keeping the ball alive for multiple possessions, especially in the third set, to make the last set really close.

“Again, I was very pleased with how your offense was able to spread the ball around with four attackers having six or more kills on the night. The crowd, especially the student section, really brought a great energy and atmosphere to the match.”

Marshfield will host a six-team tournament on Saturday with Abbotsford, Antigo, Ladysmith, Mondovi and Shawano competing. The first matches start at 9 a.m.
