AUBURNDALE – Edgar ran for more than 300 yards, with both Will Hackel and Maverick Butt topping the 100-yard mark, and pounded Auburndale at the line of scrimmage on its way to a 41-14 win in the Central Wisconsin Conference Small Division football opener for both teams on Friday at Auburndale High School.
Butt scored three first-half touchdowns and finished with 127 yards on the ground, and Hackel added two long TD runs in the second half on his way to a 150-yard night for the Wildcats (2-1, 1-0 CWC Small).
Auburndale was held to just 106 total yards while the Wildcats racked up 453 and 22 first downs.
Blake Raab had a 1-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to cut Edgar’s lead to 12-7, but Butt’s third score of the half make it a 20-7 lead at halftime.
The Wildcats tacked on two more scores in the third quarter to pull away before Auburndale scored late on a 10-yard touchdown run by Colton Weiler.
Auburndale (2-1, 0-1 CWC Small) will be back at home next Friday, Sept. 13, when it hosts Pittsville for another conference matchup.
