Columbus Catholic soccer shuts out Northland Lutheran behind hat trick from Edwards

KRONENWETTER – Mason Edwards had a hat trick providing the only offense of the game as the Columbus Catholic soccer team extended its winning streak to six with a 3-0 shutout of Northland Lutheran in a Central Wisconsin Conference match Thursday at Northland Lutheran High School.

Edwards scored in the 30th minute to give the Dons a 1-0 lead that held into halftime.

The junior added two more goals, both off assists from Elijah Drury, 17:27 into the second half and with just 30 seconds to go in regulation.

The Dons (8-1, 4-0 CWC) were dominant on defense, holding Northland Lutheran (2-4, 1-2 CWC) to just three total shots and two shots on goal. Columbus Catholic goalie Carter Sommer saved them both.

Columbus Catholic will host Nekoosa for a nonconference match on Monday at 5 p.m. at Griese Park.
