MARSHFIELD – Marshfield scored three times in the opening 6½ minutes and rolled to an 8-0 victory over Merrill in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys soccer game Thursday night at Heiting Community Stadium at Marshfield High School.

Cash Frey, Matthew Uphoff and Keegan Fredrick all scored in the opening minutes, and the Tigers piled on three more before halftime as Eli Bremer, Cade Dahl and Afton Hamill connected to make it a 6-0 game.

Fredrick and Kai Rens added goals in the second half as the game ended at the 60-minute mark due to the eight-goal mercy rule.

“Eight goals from seven different players is an impressive result and a testament to how willing this team is to help each other reach a common goal of success,” Marshfield coach Jeff Molter said. “There were a lot of balls that were slotted as a better option over shooting and the boys realize that are willing to forego personal success for team success.”

Uphoff and Mason Horn each had two assists, with Bremer, Dahl and Fredrick also assisting on Marshfield scores.
