EAU CLAIRE – The Marshfield football team broke out of its offensive slump in a big way, putting up half a hundred to pick up its first victory of the season.

Brooks Hinson caught three touchdown passes from Chase Robinson and returned an interception for another score as the Tigers rolled to a 50-30 victory over Eau Claire Memorial in a Wisconsin Valley Conference matchup Friday night at Carson Park.

The Tigers, which had only scored three touchdowns all season and only two offensively, exploded for a big offensive night and potentially saved their chances at making a playoff run in the process.

Hinson hauled in a 16-yard touchdown pass from Robinson and a two-point conversion put Marshfield (1-3, 1-1 WVC) up 8-0.

Memorial (0-4, 0-2 WVC) pulled ahead early in the second quarter after scoring on its second-straight possession. A 26-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Gundlach and a two-point run gave the Old Abes a 14-8 lead just 35 seconds into the second quarter.

From there, it was all Tigers.

Marshfield got a little closer with a safety as Gundlach slipped in the end zone and took the next possession to pay dirt as Robinson hooked up with Hinson again for a 15-yard touchdown and a 16-14 lead.

The Tigers tacked on two more touchdowns in the final 3 minutes of the half as Grayden Rode scampered in from the 5, and Hinson burned his defender and grabbed a 51-yard bomb from Robinson on the final play of the half as Marshfield took a 30-14 lead into the break.

Hinson then returned an interception 47 yards for a score early in the fourth quarter, his second pick-six of the season, and Rode tacked on two long touchdown runs in the final period to finish off the victory for Marshfield.

Hinson finished with five catches for 90 yards and Rode racked up a career-high 147 yards on the ground for the Tigers.

The Tigers will host D.C. Everest (3-1, 2-0 WVC) next Friday, Sept. 20, at Heiting Community Stadium at 7 p.m. The 2024 Marshfield Tiger Hall of Fame class will be introduced prior to the game and at halftime.
