Stratford earns title at Auburndale Volleyball Tournament

AUBURNDALE – Stratford went a perfect 5-0 to win the championship at the Auburndale Volleyball Tournament on Saturday at Auburndale High School.

Auburndale ended up 3-2 and Marshfield Columbus Catholic 2-3 at the eight-team tournament.

Stratford defeated Stevens Point Pacelli 25-18, 25-17; Auburndale 25-22, 20-25, 15-12; Iola-Scandinavia 25-15, 25-15; Prentice 25-12, 25-16; and Wisconsin Rapids Assumption 25-14, 25-15.

Auburndale went 3-1 in its other four matches, beating Prentice 25-23, 25-20; Nekoosa 25-22, 25-20; and Columbus Catholic 25-22, 25-16. The Eagles also suffered a 25-8, 25-15 loss to Pacelli.

Columbus Catholic defeated Assumption 15-13, 25-18, and Nekoosa 25-12, 32-30, and also suffered a 25-10, 25-21, loss to Pacelli.

Kalyn Schueller had 38 kills and 56 digs, Carly Pankratz added 48 digs, Emerson Roy finished with 53 assists, Laney Pankratz had 43 assists, and McKenzie Novotny had 21 kills in Stratford’s five matches.

Auburndale’s stat leaders were Lily Bellanti with 33 kills and 32 digs, Chesney Nagel with 50 assists, Jaylnn Scherr with 35 assists, and Sidney Wolff with 21 kills and 23 digs.

Shelby Spata had a team-best 37 kills and 40 digs, Alayna Egle had 48 assists, Sophie Wilczek had 40 assists, Delia Trader had 42 digs, and Aubrey Waldhauser chipped in 17 kills and nine blocks for the Dons.

Stratford will host Auburndale for a Marawood Conference South Division match on Tuesday. Columbus Catholic is back in action Tuesday at Owen-Withee for its Cloverbelt Conference East Division opener.
