Marshfield girls golf takes first at fifth leg of Wisconsin Valley Conference Tournament

STEVENS POINT – The Marshfield girls golf team earned its fourth victory in five tries as it placed first at the fifth leg of the Wisconsin Valley Conference Girls Golf Tournament on Monday at Wisconsin River Golf Course.

The Tigers finished with a team score of 179 as McKenzie Holm, Lexxi Oertel and Brielle Lenz all tied for third place individually with 44s. Wisconsin Rapids was a distant second with a 191 and Wausau East/West took third with a 194.

Talia Schlindwein of Wausau East/West won the individual title with a 41, two shots ahead of D.C. Everest’s Ella Szekeress, to maintain her lead on top of the individual standings.

Kyle Laufenberg tied for seventh with a 47, and Lauren Boon shot a 56 to round out Marshfield’s scoring.

The sixth leg of the tournament will be held Thursday at Northern Bay Golf Course in Arkdale, with Adams-Friendship serving as the host. The final leg of the seven-meet tournament will be held Sept. 24 at Marshfield Country Club.
