WAUSAU – Marshfield had a pair of top-15 finishes at the Smiley Cross Country Invitational on Saturday at Wausau East High School.
Nearly 500 runners competed in varsity races, with the scores split between Division 1 and Divisions 2-3.
The Marshfield girls placed sixth and the boys were 10th in Division 1, while the Auburndale girls placed eighth in the Division 2-3 team standings. Both the Spencer girls and boys, and the Auburndale boys did not have complete squads.
Madison West won the Division 1 girls team title, with Little Chute taking first in Divisions 2-3. Shorewood was the Division 1 boys champion and Two Rivers won the Division 2-3 title.
Natalie Scharenbroch led the Marshfield girls, medaling with a 10th-place finish among Division 1 runners, finishing in 20:18.7. Adeline Lonsdale took 30th (21:16) and Natlaie Schmitt 31st (21:18) as well for the Tigers.
Rose Hasenohrl placed 22nd in Division 2-3 in 21:08.8 to lead Auburndale. Spencer’s top girls runner was Tahneya Anderson (144th, 28:31.5).
Owen Hoerneman was the Marshfield boys top runner, taking 13th in Division 1 in 17:02.5. Lincoln Berger placed 49th in 18:01.5.
Jaxon Grube placed 102nd in 20:13.1 for Auburndale in the Division 2-3 standings, with Spencer’s top runner being Camdyn Vogel, who was 151st in 21:44.8.
Spencer will host its annual invite and Auburndale will take part in the Westfield Invite on Thursday. Marshfield’s next meet is the Nightfall Classic at RiverEdge Golf Course in Marshfield, which is hosted by Stratford, on Friday night.
