WAUSAU – The Marshfield volleyball team remains the lone undefeated team in the Wisconsin Valley Conference after winning all three of its matches at the first conference meet of the season Saturday at Wausau West High School.

The Tigers defeated Wisconsin Rapids 25-20, 25-14, 22-25, 25-14; Wausau West 25-20, 25-20, 25-17; and D.C. Everest 25-14, 25-19, 24-26, 25-10.

“This was a really good week for us in conference play, going 4-0,” Marshfield coach Josh Knecht said. “Our play throughout (Saturday) was very much up and down, and we didn’t have great consistency in our play. We would have some really good runs, but then also give some up as well.

“I thought we served very aggressively throughout the day and this put many of the teams we faced in out of system offense. We really have been pushing the girls to serve tough and that really helped us, especially in the Everest match, where we had 20 aces in four games. We ended the day with 52 total aces as a team in 11 games.”

Lauren Homolka had a team-high 36 kills, along with 11 blocks and seven service aces, Kailyn Kurth dished out 89 assists with 19 aces, and Zaida Kolbeck had 33 digs and eight aces for the Tigers (22-1 overall, 5-0 WVC).

Della Smith added 30 kills, 27 digs and 13 aces, Sophia Olson had 21 kills, and Michelle Potts chipped in 29 digs as well for Marshfield.

Marshfield’s next match is Thursday at Merrill.
