MARSHFIELD – Marshfield scored twice in the first half and the defense did the rest as it went on to a 2-0 shutout of Wausau East in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys soccer match Tuesday night at Heiting Community Stadium.

The Tigers are now 4-2-3 overall and 2-0-1 in the WVC, while East drops to 4-4-1 and 0-2 in conference play. Marshfield is tied with Wisconsin Rapids for the early season lead in the Wisconsin Valley Conference.

Keegan Fredrick scored at the 10:47 mark off an assist from Antonio Koehn, and Aaron Ongna added a goal with 3:39 to go before halftime off an Eli Bremer assist to provide Marshfield with all of the offense it needed.

Kai Rens finished with five saves in goal for Marshfield.

“We created some really great attacking sequences (in the second half), but didn’t find the net again, much of the reason for that was Andrew Kraft, Wausau East’s keeper, who had some pretty incredible saves,” Marshfield coach Jeff Molter said. “All in all, we are again pleased with our performance but won’t quit working to make the little adjustments to make us more competitive each match.”
