MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield boys soccer team overcame a slow start to defeat River Falls 4-2 in a nonconference match Saturday at Heiting Community Stadium at Marshfield High School.
After River Falls scored 11:38 into the game, Cash Frey scored twice in a six-minute span to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead.
Keegan Fredrick added a goal in the 29th minute and the 3-1 advantage held into halftime for the Tigers.
River Falls (6-6-1) scored with 10:51 to go, but Matthew Uphoff responded for Marshfield with a goal three minutes later to ice the win for the Tigers (5-3-3).
Afton Hamill and Fredrick had assists in the win for Marshfield.
“All in all, the adjustments we made at the 20-minute mark – stepping harder to the ball – made the difference today and really swung the momentum in our favor,” Marshfield coach Jeff Molter said. “Our back line of JJ Steinbach, Joey Ketterer, Afton Hamill and Dirk Vanderwyst improve and continue to impress me on what they are able to accomplish on a consistent basis.”
Marshfield returns to Wisconsin Valley Conference play Tuesday at Stevens Point.
