Columbus Catholic soccer grabs road win at Newman Catholic

WAUSAU – The Columbus Catholic soccer team picked up a big road win in the Central Wisconsin Conference on Thursday, pulling out a 3-1 win over Wausau Newman Catholic.

Mason Edwards and Ben Weiland scored in the first half, and Ezra Duda added another in the second as the Dons won their fifth game in a row to improve to 13-2-1 overall and 8-1 in the CWC, which is tied for first place with Amherst.

Lucas Erdman scored on a penalty kick with 7:37 to go for Newman Catholic’s lone goal of the game.

Columbus Catholic goalkeeper Carter Sommer finished with nine saves.

Columbus Catholic returns to action Monday at Griese Park in Marshfield to take on Northland Lutheran. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
