Stratford girls, boys cross country teams each finish third at Athens Invitational

ATHENS – The Stratford boys and girls each finished third at the Athens Cross Country Invitational on Thursday at Erbach Park.

Rib Lake/Prentice won the boys team title with 52 points, while Stratford placed third with 75 and Auburndale 10th with 277.

Phillips, which was the runner-up on the boys side, won the girls team title with 58 points. Assumption was second with 63 and Stratford third with 116. Auburndale placed fifth with 134.

Spencer had incomplete teams for both the girls and boys.

Gavin Esterholm of Phillips won the boys race in 16:11.3, just three seconds ahead of Three Lakes/Phelps’ Nolan Waltz. Cree Defoe of Stratford was third in 16:41.9 and Ethan Heeg added an eighth-place finish for the Tigers in 17:22.0.

Auburndale’s top runner was James Binder, who was 51st in 19:10.3, and Spencer’s Camdyn Vogel took 80th in 20:41.4 to lead the Rockets.

Lucy Dolan of Wisconsin Rapids Assumption continued her strong season, winning the girls race in 18:48.8, a whopping 42 seconds in front of runner-up Leah Harper of Phillips. Stratford’s Kayla Casperson took third in 19:51.3.

Auburndale’s Rose Hasenohrl finished 12th in 20:59.2 and Stratford’s Breleigh Skaya took 14th in 21:05.1.

Spencer’s top runner was Ariana Krueger, who ran in 28:25.9 to finishing 100th.

Auburndale will host its annual meet on Tuesday, with Spencer and Stratford among the teams competing.
