Columbus Catholic volleyball sweeps Spencer, takes over sole possession of first in Cloverbelt East

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic kept its perfect Cloverbelt Conference East Division record intact with a 3-0 sweep of Spencer on Thursday night at Columbus Catholic High School.

Both teams donned pink uniforms for the Columbus Blocks Cancer night to raise awareness and funds for Cattails Place at Marshfield Clinic. More than $15,000 was raised by the teams’ efforts.

Columbus Catholic cruised 25-16, 25-9, 25-14, to improve to 5-0 in the Cloverbelt East. Spencer falls to 1-4. Combined with Loyal’s 3-1 loss to Colby on Thursday, Columbus Catholic is now alone in first place in the conference standings.

Shelby Spata and Chayse Blenker each had nine kills, Abby Kibbel added eight kills, and Gracie Wilczek had seven kills, 11 digs and three service aces for the Dons.

Sophie Wilczek finished with 19 assists, Alayna Egle also contributed 17 assists, and Delia Trader finished with a team-high 16 digs for Columbus Catholic.

Carmen Krause had five kills, Chloe Timm finished with eight assists, and Alexa Stange had 12 digs to lead Spencer.

Both teams are back in action Tuesday with Cloverbelt East matches as Spencer hosts Colby and Columbus Catholic travels to Gilman.
