SPENCER – Spencer/Columbus senior Mason Wolf scored three touchdowns, including the game-winner with 4½ minutes to go in the game, to lead the Rockets to a thrilling 34-30 win over Loyal/Greenwood in a Central Wisconsin Conference Large Division football game Friday night at Spencer High School.
Devlin Timmler threw a pair of 22-yard touchdown passes to Carter Luepke and Teddy Meyer in the first quarter, and Wolf had a 12-yard TD run and a 90-yard kickoff return for a score in the second quarter to give SC a 27-14 lead at halftime.
Loyal/Greenwood pulled ahead in the third quarter as Cain Toufar ripped off an 80-yard touchdown run and Tryn Scheel scored from the 8 as it took a 30-27 lead.
That lead held until the Rockets put together a drive in the fourth quarter, culminating in a 5-yard touchdown run from Wolf with about 4½ minutes to go to give them a 34-30 lead, and the defense held from there as Spencer/Columbus earned its second victory of the season.
Loyal/Greenwood (1-6, 0-5 CWC) racked up 349 yards on the ground, including 160 from Toufar, and outgained SC 411-256 overall only to come up short on the scoreboard.
The Rockets (2-5, 1-4 CWC Large) will play at Colby on Friday, Oct. 11.
