Abbotsford football player Christian Fuentes has been voted the Schierl Tire and Auto Service High School Athlete of the Month for September.

MarshfieldAreaSports.com & Zaleski Sports co-sponsor the award, which is in its 12th year.

Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award, which will be given out monthly from September 2024 through June 2025: Abbotsford, Assumption, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Mosinee, Neillsville, Pacelli, Pittsville, Port Edwards, Spencer, Stratford, Stevens Point and Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln.

Fuentes received 1,571 of the 4,600 votes cast during voting from Oct. 1-7 at MarshfieldAreaSports.com.

Other nominees for the September award were: Stevens Point football player Grant Chandonais, Wisconsin Rapids Assumption cross country runner Lucy Dolan, Marshfield girls golfer Lexxi Oertel, Marshfield Columbus Catholic cross country runner Isaac Scheer and Stratford football player Jack Tubbs.

The Falcons started the season 6-0 and Fuentes was a big reason why. The junior running back scored six touchdowns and rushed for 537 yards in Abbotsford’s four games in September. He had 188 yards rushing and scored three touchdowns, on just six carries, in a win over Pacelli on Sept. 13.

Nominate someone for the October award by emailing MarshfieldAreaSports.com publisher Paul Lecker at paul@marshfieldareasports.com prior to Sept. 25. Voting will take place at MarshfieldAreaSports.com from Nov. 1-7.
