MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys soccer team kept its Central Wisconsin Conference title hopes alive with a convincing 5-1 win over Northland Lutheran on Monday at Griese Park.

The Dons are now 14-2-1 overall and 9-1 in the CWC, taking a one-half game lead over Amherst for first place in the conference. Amherst played a nonconference game Monday and will try to pull back into a tie with Columbus Catholic with a CWC game at Gresham/Bowler on Thursday.

Xan Rodriguez scored just 1:10 into the game and the Dons were never threatened. Cade Jansen added a goal before halftime, the first of his three goals in the victory.

Ben Weiland scored on a penalty kick 11:18 into the second half, and Jansen put the game away, finishing off a hat trick with goals in the 62nd and 72nd minutes. Northland Lutheran’s only goal came with less than four minutes to play.

The Dons will enjoy a week off before a big matchup with Amherst next Monday, Oct. 14, at 4:30 p.m. at Griese Park. The winner will take control of first place in the Central Wisconsin Conference.
