MINOCQUA – Marshfield Columbus Catholic’s No. 1 doubles team of Maria Elizabeth Garcia and Akosua Yeboah will be heading to next week’s state tournament after winning the flight title at a WIAA Division 2 girls tennis sectional at Lakeland High School on Wednesday.

Wausau Newman Catholic finished with 40 points, just clipping Lakeland by two, to earn a spot in the 2024 WIAA State Team Girls Tennis Tournament, which will be held at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison on Oct. 25-26.

Garcia and Yeboah won three matches, including a 6-2, 7-5 win over Natalie Cooper and Lauren Loesl of Stevens Point Pacelli in the championship match to take the No. 1 doubles sectional title.

The duo will compete at the 2024 WIAA State Individual Girls Tennis Tournament at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison on Oct. 17-19.
