WAUSAU – The Marshfield volleyball team kept its perfect Wisconsin Valley Conference record intact with a 3-0 sweep of Wausau West on Thursday night at Wausau West High School.
The Tigers won 25-10, 25-20, 25-21, and is now 8-0 in the WVC and 31-4 overall.
“We were without Della Smith tonight, so I was really impressed with our team in them playing at a high level,” Marshfield coach Josh Knecht said. “Hope Kelnhofer was asked to take over for Della’s position and really did a nice job in both quality attacks and serve reception.
“Kailyn Kurth spread the ball around to everyone and they really did a great job putting a solid swing or tip on every set. We ended with only eight hitting errors on the night.”
Kurth finished with 28 assists and three service aces, Zaida Kolbeck led the defense with 17 digs and Michelle Potts added 11, and Lauren Homolka led the Tigers with 12 kills and also had three aces. Alyssa Foemmel with eight kills, Devyn LeMoine with seven and Sophia Olson with six all contributed to Marshfield’s offense as well.
Marshfield can clinch no worse than a tie for its fifth-straight Wisconsin Valley Conference championship with wins over Merrill and Stevens Point at the second WVC meet of the season Saturday at Wausau East.
The Tigers will finish their regular season with home matches against Wausau East on Tuesday and Wisconsin Rapids next Thursday, Oct. 17.
