COLBY – Colby scored three second-half touchdowns to pull past Spencer/Columbus 28-20 in a Central Wisconsin Conference Large Division football game Friday night at Colby High School.

Touchdown passes of 54 and 4 yards from Devlin Timmler to Mac Konieczny lifted the Rockets to a 14-6 halftime lead.

However, a big turnover for Colby allowed it to tie the game as Jacob Hoppe returned a fumble 35 yards for a score in the third quarter.

Colby pulled ahead for good in the fourth as quarterback Luke Hannula completed his only pass of the game for a 25-yard touchdown to Colton Orth and the Hornets added a two-point conversion to go up 22-14.

SC pulled closer on a 9-yard TD pass from Timmler to Teddy Meyer, but the Rockets missed the two-point try and trailed by two. The Rockets were not able to push it in again and Colby tacked on a 44-yard touchdown run from Brody Viegut in the closing minutes to finish off the 28-20 win.

Timmler finished 20-for-31 for 239 yards and the three touchdowns to pace the Spencer/Columbus offense. Konieczny (93 yards), Meyer (44 yards) and Mason Wolf (23 yards) each hauled in five passes as the Rockets turned to the air with Colby holding them to minus-5 yards rushing on 25 carries.

Spencer/Columbus (2-6, 1-5 CWC Large) will wrap up its 2024 season at home against Marathon next Friday, Oct. 18, at Spencer High School.

Colby (3-5, 3-3 CWC Large) will need a win at Weyauwega-Fremont (4-4, 3-3 CWC Large) on Oct. 18 to secure a WIAA postseason berth. Click here to view the Central Wisconsin Conference Large Division football standings
