MARSHFIELD – Marshfield could not make an early goal hold up as D.C. Everest rallied to defeat the Tigers 3-1 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys soccer game Tuesday night at Heiting Community Stadium at Marshfield High School.

Antonio Koehn broke a scoreless tie with a goal at the 28:52 mark of the first half to give Marshfield the lead, only to see D.C. Everest’s Hezekiah Mletzko knot the score at 1-1 with a goal 5½ minutes later.

The tie score held until midway through the second half when the Evergreens broke through.

Brian Lorge scored at the 67:05 mark and added an insurance goal eight minutes after that to push D.C. Everest’s lead to 3-1, which held through the end of the game.

Aissen Witter made three saves in goal for D.C. Everest (10-6, 6-2 Wisconsin Valley Conference), while Kai Rens saved five shots, including one on a penalty kick early in the contest, for Marshfield (6-7-3, 3-4-1 WVC).

D.C. Everest will play at Wausau West at 4 p.m. Thursday in a winner-take-all Wisconsin Valley Conference championship tilt. West defeated Wisconsin Rapids 3-0 on Tuesday to join the Evergreens on top of the conference standings. In the case of a tie between DCE and West, Wisconsin Rapids, which plays at Marshfield on Thursday, could also join in a three-way tie for the WVC title with a victory.
