MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield volleyball team wrapped up the outright Wisconsin Valley Conference championship with a 3-0 sweep of Wausau East on Tuesday night at Marshfield High School.

The Tigers found little resistance, winning 25-10, 25-6, 25-12, to improve to 11-0 in the WVC and 34-4 overall.

Marshfield honored its eight seniors and each contributed in a big way to the victory.

Lauren Homolka finished with 15 kills on just 19 attempts with only two errors. Alyssa Foemmel added five kills, Kaily Kurth had 14 assists and Sydney Quarne had 11 assists, and Zaida Kolbeck, Kurth, Michelle Potts and Homolka all had four service aces as the Tigers accumulated 21 in the sweep.

“I am really pleased that our team was able to achieve its first goal of the year winning the Wisconsin Valley Conference championship outright,” Marshfield coach Josh Knecht said. “We have a chance on Thursday night to end the season with a perfect conference season versus Wisconsin Rapids. We really served the ball well, achieving 21 aces, the most this season.

“Lauren Homolka led our attack and was just so efficient in terminating the ball tonight. To get 15 kills out of 19 attacks is truly remarkable. All our hitters had really good statistics and part of that was the setting of both Kailyn Kurth and Sydney Quarne. We were able to get some reps using the two-setter offense tonight, something we haven’t been able to do much lately. It is nice to have that as an option for us as we begin preparation for the WIAA tournament next week.”

Marshfield’s regular-season finale, at home Thursday against Wisconsin Rapids, begins at 7 p.m. The WIAA postseason brackets will be announced Wednesday, with the playoffs beginning with regional semifinals Thursday, Oct. 24.
