MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield volleyball team finished an undefeated Wisconsin Valley Conference championship season with a 3-0 sweep of Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday night at Marshfield High School.

The Tigers rolled 25-10, 25-18, 25-15, to finish the WVC season at 12-0 and improve to 35-4 overall.

Kailyn Kurth had 22 assists, Alyssa Foemmel had six kills, and Lauren Homolka had four block kills in the win for Marshfield.

Kurt, Homolka, Della Smith, Hope Kelnhofer, Devyn LeMoine and Sophia Olson all added three kills, and Zaida Kolbeck had seven service aces and 11 digs as well for the Tigers.

“Early on Rapids really came out and was doing a nice job of blocking and digging our attacks,” Marshfield coach Josh Knecht said. “Zaida Kolbeck went back with the game tied and went on a huge service run and seemed to give us all the momentum we needed for the rest of the night. Offensively, we really spread the ball around in which seven attackers had three kills or more.”

Marshfield will open the playoffs with a WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal at home against Menomonie on Thursday, Oct. 24, beginning at 7 p.m.
