RIB MOUNTAIN – The Marshfield girls finished as the runner-up and the boys took third at the 2024 Wisconsin Valley Conference Cross Country Meet on Saturday at Nine Mile Forest.

Stevens Point won both team titles for the third-straight year. The title for the Stevens Point boys was its 46th in the last 48 years, while the girls won their 10th conference championship since 2012.

Ethan Olds won the boys race in 15:38.6, 16 seconds ahead of teammate Cooper Erickson to lead the Stevens Point boys, which had seven of the top eight finishers.

Owen Hoerneman took 10th in 17:05.4 and Marshall Neve was 14th in 17:27.4 to earn all-conference accolades for the Marshfield boys. It was the second year in a row Hoerneman placed 10th.

Tessa Bruckhart of Stevens Point was the girls individual champion, winning the 5-kilometer race in 19:28.1. Elexa Draeger of Wausau West was second in 19:51.0.

Marshfield’s Natalie Scharenbroch and Adeline Lonsdale repeated as top-10 performers. Scharenbroch, who placed fifth last year, took fourth in 20:14.8, while Lonsdale improved on a 10th-place finish last year to take fifth in 20:24.8.

Natalie Schmitt (20th, 21:47), Kassidy Christopher (21st, 21:54) and Taiya Lang (22nd, 22:04) rounded out the Tigers’ second-place finish.

“The kids really stepped up,” Marshfield coach Dan Akin said. “I was impressed with so many of their races. Placing second for the girls and third overall for the boys was so impressive for this group of hard-working runners.”

Marshfield will compete at a WIAA Division 1 sectional next Saturday at Menomonie High School.
