MADISON – Columbus Catholic’s doubles team of Akosua Yeboah and Maria Elizabeth Garcia earned a third-place finish at the 2024 WIAA State Individual Girls Tennis Tournament at Nielsen Tennis Stadium on the campus of the University of Wisconsin.
Yeboah and Garcia won three matches during competition Thursday and Friday to reach the Division 2 No. 1 doubles semifinals. The Dons’ duo defeated Nora Dickinson and Eva Willenbring of Lac Crosse Aquinas 6-4, 6-2, Julia Larson and Karly Miller of Onalaska Luther 6-1, 6-0, and Audrey Quernemone and Marina Matson of Brookfield Academy 6-1, 1-6, 10-4.
In the semifinals Saturday, Yeboah and Garcia lost to eventual champion Vivie Auth and Adel Schneider of Neenah St. Mary Catholic 6-2, 6-2, before rebounding to win the third-place match over Ava Miller and Parker Van Dusen of Kenosha St. Joseph Catholic 5-7, 6-3, 10-3.
Yeboah and Garcia finish the season with a 21-3 record.
