NEILLSVILLE – On Dec. 2, the Spencer girls basketball team was embarrassed by Neillsville 44-10 on its home court.
On Tuesday, the Rockets got a chance at a rematch and held the lead at halftime, but undefeated Neillsville was just too strong in the second half and went on to beat Spencer 49-35 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game at Neillsville High School.
The Rockets (9-3, 6-3 Cloverbelt East) led 26-18 at halftime but the Warriors (13-0, 9-0 Cloverbelt East) turned up their defensive pressure in the third quarter, outscoring Spencer 12-2 to take a 30-28 lead. Neillsville put the game away in the fourth with a 19-7 advantage.
Neillsville used a sizeable advantage at the free-throw line, making 16 of 24, while Spencer was 7 of 11. The Warriors also outrebounded Spencer 36-25.
Freshman Jenny Lindner had 23 points and 13 rebounds to lead Neillsville.
Krystal Weier and Kyleigh Hebert each scored nine points and Courtney Schulz had nine rebounds for the Rockets.
Spencer is off until Feb. 3 when it plays at Loyal.
