Columbus Catholic volleyball dominates Augusta in WIAA Division 5 regional semifinal

MARSHFIELD – Shelby Spata and Abby Kibbel each reached double digits in kills as the Columbus Catholic volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 sweep of Augusta in a WIAA Division 5 regional semifinal Thursday night at Columbus Catholic High School.

The top-seeded Dons dominated, winning 25-8, 25-17, 25-6, to move on to a D-5 regional final at home Saturday night against No. 4 seed Athens. Athens survived a five-set match to defeat Almond-Bancroft 3-2 on Thursday.

Spata finished with 13 kills and eight digs, and Kibbel added 10 kills in the win for the Dons, who saw their two setters, Alayna Egle and Sophie Wilczek, each finish with 16 assists.

Aubrey Waldhauser added five kills and seven service aces, Gracie Wilczek added eight digs and six aces, and Delia Trader had 10 digs for Columbus Catholic.
