MARSHFIELD – The Columbus Catholic soccer team netted two goals in the first half and made it stand up in a 2-1 win over Stevens Point Pacelli/Iola-Scandinavia in a WIAA Division 4 regional final Saturday afternoon at Griese Park.

Xan Rodriguez scored off a corner kick from Cole Wallace at the 16:37 mark and Mason Edwards knocked in a deflected shot 15 minutes later to put the Dons up 2-0.

Columbus Catholic could not get anything else going offensively the rest of the way.

Braeden Flaker scored for the Cardinals 10:21 into the second half, but Columbus was able to stymie for the remaining 30 minutes to finish off the victory. Flaker’s goal was Pacelli/Iola-Scandinavia’s only shot on goal in the game.

No. 1 seed Columbus Catholic (18-3-1) will host No. 2 seed La Crosse Aquinas (14-2-4) for a D-4 sectional semifinal Thursday at 4 p.m. at Griese Park.
