Marshfield has eight individual top-10 finishes, places fifth at Wisconsin Valley Conference Girls Swim Meet

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Stevens Point won seven of the 11 events to win its fourth-straight Wisconsin Valley Conference title at the WVC Girls Swim Meet on Thursday at Lincoln High School.

Stevens Point finished with 517.5 points to win the team title at the conference meet, with D.C. Everest second with 459 points. Marshfield took fifth with 223 points and ended up in a fourth-place tie in the overall standings with Merrill.

Stevens Point’s Klaire Pilger won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:09.53, setting a new conference meet record, also was first in the 200 individual medley in 2:10.83, and helped the Panthers’ 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay to victories.

Pilger and Wausau West’s Eva Jaroski were named Wisconsin Valley Conference Co-Swimmers of the Year.

Brooke Begotka placed second in the 100 butterfly in 1:01.24 and was also runner-up in the 100 breaststroke for Marshfield’s top finishes.

Tera Risa placed third in the 200 IM in 2:22.16 and fourth in the 1:03.66, Shiloh Smith finished sixth in the 100 freestyle in 59.28 seconds and ninth in the 50 freestyle in 27.17, and Hannah LaPointe placed eighth in the 200 IM in 2:35.80 and ninth in the 100 backstroke in 1:11.98 for Marshfield’s other top-10 finishes.
