MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic volleyball team stands one win away from reaching its first state tournament after outlasting Gilman 3-1 in a WIAA Division 5 sectional semifinal Thursday night at Columbus Catholic High School.
The No. 1 seed Dons won 25-17, 25-13, 27-29, 25-18, to advance to a Division 5 sectional final against Royall on Saturday at Almond-Bancroft High School. The match will start at 7 p.m. with the winner qualifying for the 2024 WIAA State Girls Volleyball Tournament at the Resch Center in Green Bay next week.
Shelby Spata had 23 kills and 17 digs, Alayna Egle finished with 25 assists, 12 digs and four kills, Delia Trader had a team-high 21 digs, and Aubrey Waldhauser added eight kills for the Dons.
Sophie Wilczek pitched in 18 assists and 10 digs, Chayse Blenker had seven kills, and Abby Kibbel and Gracie Wilczek each had six kills for Columbus Catholic.
