MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield boys soccer team’s run in the WIAA playoffs came to a halt Thursday night as River Falls scored four times in the final 25 minutes of the first half and defeated the Tigers 4-1 in a WIAA Division 2 sectional semifinal at Heiting Community Stadium.

Matthew Uphoff got Marshfield on the board early, scoring just over eight minutes into the contest, but it would be tough going from there on for the Tigers.

Boz Berg answered to tie the game in the 15th minute and Tustin Todd knocked in a free kick from 27 yards out in the 28th minute to put River Falls on top for good.

Dominic Hitala added two goals in the final five minutes of the half to pad River Falls’ lead.

Neither team was able to make a dent offensively in the second half.

River Falls (10-10-2) moves on to a Division 2 sectional final and will play at No. 1 seed DeForest (17-3-1) on Saturday at 7 p.m. with a berth in next week’s WIAA State Boys Soccer Tournament in Milwaukee on the line.

Marshfield finishes the season with a 7-8-5 record.
