SPENCER – The Spencer girls basketball team jumped out to a 10-point lead by halftime and held on to defeat Prentice 49-43 in its season-opener Tuesday night at Spencer High School.
Autumn Davis scored 16 of her team-high 28 points in the opening half as the Rockets built a 25-15 lead.
Prentice tried to mount a comeback in the second half but Spencer was able to hold on as Davis poured in 12 more points and Dani Soback added four.
Kali Heikkenen had a game-high 33 points for Prentice, making 18 of 25 free throws in the contest.
Spencer will jump right back into action Thursday with another nonconference home game against Northland Lutheran.
