AUBURNDALE – Auburndale turned to Austin Hawkins early and often, and it paid off for the Apaches.
Hawkins scored 37 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lift Auburndale to a 69-50 win over Edgar in a Marawood Conference South Division boys basketball game Thursday night at Auburndale High School.
Hawkins made 15 of 27 shots from the field and 4 of 5 from the free-throw line to lift the Apaches to their fifth-straight win. Auburndale improves to 13-2 and 8-1 in the Marawood South, while Edgar falls to 5-9 and 4-5 in conference.
Auburndale trailed 15-10 after one quarter and 32-28 at halftime before dominating the second half. The Apaches outscored Edgar 23-7 in the third quarter and 18-11 in the fourth to win going away.
Auburndale made 12 of 16 free throws and shot 56 percent (27 of 48) from the field.
C.J. Castellano had 10 assists and seven points for the Apaches.
Dakota Heidmann drilled six 3-pointers and finished with 28 points for Edgar.
