Stratford boys basketball starts strong, outlasts Neillsville to win opener

NEILLSVILLE – The Stratford boys basketball team jumped out to a double-digit lead by halftime and defeated Neillsville 64-52 in the season-opener for both teams on Monday night at Neillsville High School.

Stratford pulled out to a 33-22 lead at the opening 18 minutes and cruised from there, holding on for the 12-point win.

Drew Bruesewitz made 11 of 16 free throws and scored a team-high 26 points for the Tigers. Riley Spindler added 10 points, and Alec Chapel had seven points and seven rebounds in the win for Stratford.

Stratford will play a Marawood Conference crossover game at Prentice on Friday.
