McDonell hands Columbus Catholic boys basketball its first loss of season

MARSHFIELD – Chippewa Falls McDonell busted open a tight game with a dominating second half and sent Marshfield Columbus Catholic to its first loss of the season, winning 62-48 in a nonconference boys basketball game Thursday at Columbus Catholic High School.

The game was tied 29-29 at half before McDonell (2-1) used a 33-19 advantage in the second half to pull away.

Cael Holm had 17 points to lead the Macks.

Sophomore Carter Sommer was the only Columbus Catholic player to reach double figures, finishing with 13 points.

Columbus Catholic will play another nonconference game at home Monday against Auburndale. Game time is 7:15 p.m.
