WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Auburndale girls basketball team fell from the ranks of the unbeatens, losing its first game of the season Tuesday to fellow undefeated Wisconsin Rapids Assumption 59-22 at Assumption High School.
Assumption (6-0, 4-0 Marawood Conference South Division) dominated the first half, pulling out to a 42-13 lead, and had no trouble holding on from there.
The Royals held Auburndale (4-1, 2-1 Marawood South) to just six made field goals. The Eagles ended up 9-for-13 at the free throw line to account for nearly half of their points.
Oriah Harris had five points to top the Eagles.
Anna Schooley finished with 19 points for Assumption, the top-ranked team in this week’s Wissports.net Division 5 state coaches poll.
Auburndale will be back in action Friday with a Marawood Conference crossover game at home against Phillips at 7:15 p.m.
