Columbus Catholic boys basketball tops Spencer in Cloverbelt East opener

SPENCER – Cole Wallace and Ben Weiland each scored 14 points to lead the Columbus Catholic boys basketball team to a 58-52 win over Spencer in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division opener for both teams on Tuesday night at Spencer High School.

The Dons led 26-21 at halftime and did just enough at the end to hold off Spencer and send the Rockets to their first loss of the season.

Weiland made four of the Dons’ nine 3-pointers in the victory as Columbus Catholic ends a two-game losing skid and improves to 4-2 overall.

Sam Bezlyk had 24 points and Wes Nieman 13 for Spencer (3-1 overall).

Both teams will host Cloverbelt East games on Friday as Spencer takes on Loyal and Columbus Catholic plays Neillsville. Both games begin at 7:15 p.m.
