BROOKFIELD – Marshfield senior Brooks Hinson scored 25 points to become the program’s all-time leading scorer, but the Tigers could not overcome an 11-point halftime deficit and dropped a 62-53 decision to Brookfield Central in a nonconference boys basketball game Saturday at Brookfield Central High School.
Hinson now has 1,191 points during his four-year varsity career as he surpassed Charlie Aslakson (1,170 points), who played for Marshfield from 1958-61.
Hinson hit a 3-pointer from the right wing with 12 minutes to go in the first half to move past Aslakson, breaking the school record held for more than six decades. The shot gave Marshfield a 5-0 lead, but Brookfield Central dominated the rest of the first half, going on a 31-15 run to take an 11-point lead. Marshfield could not make up enough ground in the second half and falls to 2-2 this season.
Landon Lee added 12 points for the Tigers.
Anthony Rise led Central (3-2) with 18 points, making all eight of his free throw attempts.
Marshfield returns to Wisconsin Valley Conference play on Friday with a big early-season matchup at Wausau East. Game time is 7:15 p.m.
