Marathon hands Stratford boys basketball first loss of season

STRATFORD – Marathon was able to hold off a second-half surge from Stratford to win Tuesday’s Marawood Conference South Division boys basketball game 62-61 at Stratford High School.

Marathon led 31-20 at halftime before the Tigers made a big run in the second half, only to come up short and suffered their first loss of the season.

Stratford outscored the Raiders 41-31 in the second half, with a 3-pointer at the buzzer leaving the Tigers one point short. Stratford was hurt by its free throw shooting, going 11-for-26 from the line.

Drew Bruesewitz had 17 points, and Brooks Vanderhoof had 10 points and six assists for Stratford (4-1, 2-1 Marawood South).
