Columbus Catholic girls basketball wins at Abbotsford, drops conference game at Loyal

The Marshfield Columbus Catholic girls basketball team split a pair of road games early this week, rolling past Abbotsford 57-17 on Monday before suffering a 57-39 loss to Loyal on Tuesday.

In Monday’s nonconference win at Abbotsford, the Dons held Abbotsford (1-7) to just five made field goals and had little trouble picking up their fourth win of the season.

Izzy Holz had 10 points, and Gracie Wilczek and Maddie Bernick each scored nine for Columbus Catholic.

The Dons outscored Abbotsford by 20 points in each half.

On Tuesday, the Dons traveled to Loyal for a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game and could not overcome a seven-point halftime deficit.

Four Loyal (3-3, 2-2 Cloverbelt East) players scored in double figures, led by Olivia Nikolai, who had 14 points.

Holz topped the Dons (4-4, 1-3 Cloverbelt East) with 14 points and Gracie Wilczek had 10 in the loss.

The Dons will host Colby for another Cloverbelt East game Friday at 7:15 p.m.
