Stratford girls basketball rolls past Newman Catholic

STRATFORD – Kayla Casperson, Carly Pankratz and Tria Tubbs each scored eight points in the first half as Stratford built a huge lead on its way to a 62-23 victory over Wausau Newman Catholic in a Marawood Conference South Division girls basketball game Friday night at Stratford High School.

Stratford led 39-11 at halftime and nearly doubled-up the Cardinals in the second half to roll to the 39-point win and stay undefeated, improving to 8-0 overall and 6-0 in the Marawood South.

Tubbs finished with 12 points and seven rebounds, and Carly Pankratz had 11 points for the Tigers.

Aubrey Puent had 14 points to lead Newman Catholic (1-7, 1-5 Marawood South).

Stratford will play Cochrane-Fountain City at the Bangor Holiday Tournament on Friday, Dec. 27, with another game at the tournament to follow on Dec. 28.
